  1. Thanks for remembering us in NE WA. This smoke is so toxic, we can't work around our property except for short periods. I don't know how those brave ones working wildfires can breathe, let alone keep safe from fire, falling trees, terrain caused injuries.

  2. I thought I saw and smelled some wierd air in Olympia on my bike ride in to work today, but EPA’s AirNow site indicates good air quality here. But then when I looked at the AirNow map, Olympia looks like it’s in moderate air. Is there some error here? https://airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=airnow.local_city&cityid=254. Are we getting smoke in surface air in Oly today?

    1. Some areas in the general vicinity of Olympia are in the Moderate air quality category (Shelton, Auburn, Kent) so I suspect the AirNow map is having to choose between calling the area Good when some are Moderate, or Moderate when some are Good so it's choosing the worst case. There's a fire on the Olympic Peninsula that is probably contributing to the weird air smell.

    2. Hi Chris, the Maple Fire (https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/6111/) near Hamma Hamma in the Olympics has been sending a little smoke our way. Plus some light overhead smoke from OR/ CA. The AirNow map is a combo of ozone & PM2.5, and Yelm's ozone levels are high right now, as are Shelton's PM2.5 levels.
