Welcome to the Washington Smoke blog, a partnership between state, county, and federal agencies, and Tribes. We coordinate to collectively share info for Washington communities affected by wildfire smoke. If the air monitoring map doesn't display here, links to additional monitoring maps can be found under the 'Monitoring & Forecasting' tab.

07/30/2014 Air Quality Report

Smoke Synopsis:
|
||||
|
High pressure will linger over
the area through the end of the work week. A slight shift in the ridge will
allow temperatures to ease back down into the 90s later in the week. Short-range
expect light and variable winds with upslope/downslope diurnal pattern
dominating. Look for more smoke to be visible coming from within the fire
perimeters as fire activity continues to increase. Smoke will settle into
low-lying/valley areas overnight and lifting out with daytime heating. Models
are pointing towards the possibility of mid-level moisture making its way
into the area by the weekend with the potential of some isolated
thunderstorms and dry lightning.

Leavenworth Unhealthy July 30th
Air Quality Advisory Wednesday 11 am
Wenatchee & Chelan “Good”
Leavenworth “Unhealthy”
When air quality is in the “Unhealthy” range everyone is at risk of being affected by the smoke. Outdoor physical activities should be cancelled. At this point you should limit exposure to outside air and do not do anything that would increase your breathing rate, people should avoid any exertion. It is best to stay indoors. Use of N95 masks, if you must go outside, can be helpful to reduce your exposure to the pollutants in the smoke. Symptoms can include headache, nausea, dizziness and shortness of breath. The general population can experience these symptoms.
· In your vehicle use the recycle mode on your interior air system.
· If possible, go to an area unaffected by the wildfire smoke until the smoke clears, especially if you are having symptoms like headaches, dizziness or nausea or having increased respiratory symptoms like shortness of breath.
· Keep windows closed.
· Limit time outdoors.
· If you are having significant problems talk to your health care provider.
